What to wear to a photoshoot
clothes say more than you think
When deciding what to wear think of these 4 things: comfort, colors, movement & Personality
If you consider these four things when picking out your outfit you can’t go wrong! I will never tell you what to wear to our session, because at the end of the day these are YOUR photos & I want them to feel like YOU! But I am here to help if you need it! Below you will find my tips & suggestions to get the best photos possible.
your wardrobe & the colors you’re wearing play such a huge role in your final images.
One thing I have learned since beginning my photography business is how powerful the color theory is. Colors interact with each other in what can be the most beautiful way or the most contradictory way, so I always suggest taking your location into consideration when choosing your outfit. If you are in a vibrant area like downtown, I recommend wearing white or neutrals so you don’t clash with the scenery. If you have a very simple setting like a field or the beach, I recommend wearing pastels with subtle patterns &/or florals or neutrals that compliment the earthy tones of your setting. For example some light denim & a white top would compliment the sand, deep blue ocean & dune grass perfectly, without matching it exactly! The goal is to compliment, not match! (This goes for coordinating outfits with your partner as well).
Add in accessories to show off your personality & a pop of color!
TIP 1: Speaking of coordinating with your partner, try to pick one outfit first, (whoever is more excited about the aspect of fashion), and then base the second outfit off the first.
TIP 2: Make a Pinterest board and see if you spot a theme among all the photos your drawn to! Are they all wearing denim? Flowy dresses? Florals? Don’t be afraid to pin things like color profiles or fashion choices to your board too!
TIP 3: If you want to wear more than one outfit, I always suggest wearing the most comfortable one first! It helps to ease into getting your photo taken, it can be intimidating at first!
TIP 4: Speaking of comfort, wear clothes you are COMFORTABLE in! You want to be present to show true emotion in your images & that can’t happen if you are concerned about your outfit the entire time!
TIP 5: Wear clothes that can incorporate movement. For example a flowy dress or a long cardigan, it gives you something to do with your hands & creates whimsical photos!
TIP 6: Add accessories to show your personality! Hair clips, bows, bandanas, your favorite jewelry, sunglasses or bag, just have fun with it!
