Your guide to a successful session

romanticize away, my friends, you’re worth it

So, you invested in a photographer to document your love story! Now what?

Whether you are newly engaged, celebrating an anniversary, expecting a new addition to the family, or a brand new couple wanting to document your love! Investing in photography can be so rewarding in so many ways, in addition to the timestamps you will receive in the form of photographs. It can bring you and your partner closer, remind you of the little things that make your relationship special & compel you to slow down and be fully present together.

Here are my top tips to make the most out of your session and elevate your experience beyond just “taking photos.”

tip 1 :

After you book your session , begin to notice how you and your partner act in everyday, real life circumstances.

How do you hold hands, snuggle on the couch, embrace after a long day of work? The act of noticing these little nuances that make your love unique and engaging in them at your session will ensure your photos really feel like YOU!

this will help when i say things like…

“sit next to each other like you would if you were watching a movie together on the couch” or “walk down to the water like you would if you were strolling downtown on a date night”

tip 2 :

Make a date night out of your session!

I highly suggest scheduling your session on a day when neither of you have to work & you can dedicate your whole day to connecting & being present with one another. It makes the day so much more meaningful than rushing after a long work day to beat the sunset, flustered & stressed!

Nervous to be in front of the camera? You’re not alone. Grab drinks before hand at a near by location to loosen up and ease your nerves if that sounds like something you’d enjoy! Then make reservations for a special restaurant you’ve been wanting to try in the area to enjoy afterwards, make a whole evening of it!

Have any activities you’ve been dying to try together? A picnic on the beach? Ceramic studio classes?

Let’s curate the session around your date night dreams!

tip 3 :

Create a vision

What song do you want your session to feel like? Energetic & up beat or slow and acoustic?

What colors do you want your session to feel like? Bright & earthy or bold & colorful?

What era do you want your session to feel like? Nostalgic & grainy or modern & clean?

let’s collaborate on a pinterest board!

I love working together to bring your vision to life, & pinterest is the perfect place to start! Not only does it give me a better idea of what your are hoping for out of your photos, it can help you process what you like and don’t like!

Try to notice a theme in all the photos your are drawn to: what are they wearing? How are they styling their hair? What location are they at? What colors do you notice a pattern with?

Don’t be afraid to pin things like color palettes! Song lyrics! Movie stills! Textures! Landscapes! These all play along with each other to create the perfect vibe for your session!
